Technology TFT Displays / Active Displays
|
 |
Principles / Assembly
A TFT display basically consists of a TN cell, a colour filter
and a transistor per (sub-) pixel.
The transistor directly controls the brightness of the respective
sub-pixel. This technology enables faster reaction times and
a more exact control of the pixels as opposed to passive displays.
It is also possible to achieve very high resolutions (higher
than 640 x 480 Pixel).

Interfaces
Since TFTs usually require a lot of data, there are different
standardised interfaces to control TFT displays. The following
belong to these:
- Proprietary Analogue Interface
- TTL (18-Bit or 24-Bit)
- VGA (Analogue RGB), can be generated, e.g. by a PC graphics
card
- DVI (Digital Visual Interface), can be generated, e.g.
by a PC graphics card
- LVDS (Low Voltage Differential Signalling)
